You knew it was coming, we knew it was coming. Hell, even on our first visit to Avalanche Studios two years ago to see the original Just Cause, conversation turned to the inevitably of a sequel. Despite looking lovelier than a National Geographic spread, the game was hamstrung by its last-generation origins: a vast sandbox world to run around in and it was emptier than Paris Hilton�s head.

But there�s hope second time around, as undercover agent Rico skydives once more into a tropical island to destabilise a government, smooch with the ladies and hijack any vehicle that runs. Avalanche has reportedly booted out the side missions and instead bolstered the main storyline to incorporate the �play any way you wish� structure of the previous game. Objectives now unlock new equipment and skills that multiply those potential strategies for taking out cartels. So strike the thought of scouring the island for 200-plus collectables hour after hour.

Rockstar have released.. TWO screenshots of GTA 4, and GTAGAMING.com have received T-shirt and beer glass from Rockstar. Uhh I also want beer glass like that, looks so nice..

It’s not easy for a company to make an open-world game that stands totally separate form the titan that is Grand Theft Auto. THQ went the opposite direction of other companies and decided to make their first entry into the free-roaming gangster genre what was essentially a re-skinned GTA. Luckily for the publisher no one had seen GTA on next-gen systems so Saints Row was their only option for a high-def world of free-roaming destruction. Now it’s the year 2008, gamers everywhere are gearing up for Grand Theft Auto IV and yet the people at THQ don’t seem worried. In fact, they seem downright confident that Saints Row 2 will be able to woo gamers away from Rockstar’s latest. Just last week we got a look at a very early build and while we weren’t allowed to delve deep into what the city of Stillwater holds this time around, we can say that the building blocks are once again in place for a rousing open-world thugfest.
