GTA 4 - Another Review

Let’s get straight to the point: GTA IV doesn’t reinvent the wheel. It sticks with the same mission-based structure as its predecessors, is crammed with challenges that inspire a nagging sense of déjà vu, and if you’re looking for a game that retools the freeform, sandbox adventure from the ground up, this isn’t it.

However, what GTA IV does do is polish every facet of the franchise to within an inch of its life – from the bustling streets and cinematic presentation, to the brutal gunplay and dizzying car chases – in turn creating the ultimate GTA, a game that will delight the hardcore and newbies alike, and a title virtually guaranteed to be 2008’s biggest videogame.

GTA 4 Goes GOLD!

Take Two Interactive’s President Strauss Zelnick has just confirmed at the company’s annual general meeting that Grand Theft Auto IV has gone gold. “Trucks are rolling next week and there will be a lot of them”, he said, confirming that the game discs will be making their way to stores next week ahead of the game’s release on April 29th.

Future Publishing have just released their CVG GTA IV special. The whole magazine is dedicated to the biggest videogame franchise of the 21st Century. What stands out is their blatant lust for the Xbox 360 version over the PlayStation 3 version. Why? Because of the Downloadable Content of course. CVG compares the Xbox 360 exclusive DLC to the Vice City & San Andreas games in space and scope, and claims the DLC will feature a brand new city.

However, two big pieces remain unknown: multiplayer, and that US$50 million dollars worth of DLC.

GTA 4 - Hands On by Kotaku

I’m sitting in the back of a Yellow Cab cutting through Manhattan at a crawl. The cabbie lets loose with a torrent of vulgarities directed at the truck in front of us.

“Yeah, just stay there, because you’re not going anywhere and now I’m not fucking going anywhere. Park right there.”

The BBFC has rated Grand Theft Auto IV with a rating of “18″ in the UK. Seven hours and forty-three minutes of cutscenes and five hours and twenty minutes of gameplay were given to the board so they could properly review the game.

The five hours and twenty minutes of gameplay probably contained short clips of every questionable thing in the game, and is in no way representative of the total gameplay time, obviously. Also, there is no guarantee that all of the cutscenes were given to the board, but my guess is that they were. If you fail a mission in the game, you get different dialogue in the cutscenes the second time and maybe even more times, so several versions of each cutscene may have been sent to the BBFC.
